BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – Fathers On a Mission (F.O.A.M) hosted ‘Enhance Your Greatness’ day on Sunday, Oct. 30.
It was an opportunity for young men ages 12-17 to access resources beneficial to their educational development, jobs skills preparation, health and well-being, and personal development.
Mentor Greg Philips said now is the time to provide the essential life tools to help the mentees grow from boys to men.
“So if we can give them the tools now, to help them solve their problems, help them deal with life at this age, it is tools that they can build on,” said Philips.
15-year-old Drexell Finley said he plans on using the tools he was given to someday make six figures.
“When they tell you about yourself and how to do better with the experiences they had, you can do so much more with yourself. I’m really hoping that I can build my dream of being a web designer and go into tech,” said Finley.
The boys rotated through sessions with Male Mentors to cover topics such as money management, character development, and conflict resolution.
Executive Director Lavar Robinson hopes this initiative will also help curb violence.
“Yes we are going to make mistakes, we’re going to minimize them, and we don’t want their mistakes to be huge and potentially cost them their lives,” said Robinson.
14-year-old Victor Hollins said he has dreams of one day making it to the NFL. He’ll be using lessons from his favorite activity of the day on and off the football field.
“The character building activity, how you have to have a good attitude, humble yourself, drive hard,” said Hollins.
