On Thursday, April 11, eleventh and twelfth grade students from various parishes are gathering for a craft competition.
The craft compeition is hosted by the Pelican Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc.
The eleventh and twelfth grade students are from these parishes:
- East Baton Rouge
- West Feliciana
- Point Coupee
Welding, carpentry and electrical are the fields that participants are set to challenge each other in.
“ABC Pelican’s annual craft championship is an ideal opportunity for high school students to showcase their craft and technical talents,” said David Helveston, President and CEO of the Pelican Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors. “We’ll be observing the competitors’ workmanship, technical understanding and safety knowledge as they vie for impressive prizes from area contractors, and of course bragging rights to bring back to their school. When you see firsthand these students’ skills and techniques, you will understand why the future of Louisiana’s construction industry is bright.”
The compeition is running from 9 a.m. through 1 p.m. and the Pelican Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. supplied this schedule:
- 9:00am – Competition begins
- 9:00am – Welders hands-on begins
- 9:30am – Carpentry hands-on begins
- 10:00am – Electrical hands-on begins
- 12:15pm – Competition concludes
- 1:00pm – Winners announced
The high school students made it to this compeition through teacher nominations or by winning peer competitions, according to ABC Pelican.
ABC Pelican said, “the winners will take their skills to the next level, claim trophies, win prizes and have bragging rights for the year.”
