Local law enforcement offer tips for safe trick or treating

Local News

It’s that time of year again as today is the spookiest day of the year which is Halloween! Although it’s a time to go out and have some fun, safety is a top priority when heading out on Halloween night.

Louisiana State Police released some tips for families trick or treating this evening.

If your child’s costume has a mask, make sure it doesn’t restrict vision and breathing.

Plan a trick or treating route in well lit neighborhoods.

Inspect candy when you get home.

Officials also have a warning for those who’ll be behind the wheel.

“They’ll be a lot of pedestrians on the roadway, animals also. Some neighborhoods don’t have sidewalks so drivers need to be aware that they’ll be a lot more pedestrian traffic on the road. They need to be cognisant of that. They need to be aware to look both ways at intersections.” :13

Most trick or treating times in the area begin around 6 p.m. so be aware of those times and be careful on the roads.
