BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School of Visual and Performing Arts has been recognized as a model school by the Arts School Network for 2022-2027.

McKinley Middle will host an event at the school, located at 1550 Eddie Robinson Sr. Drive, to celebrate the honor on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at 2:30 p.m. McKinley Middle is one of the nine schools in the country to receive the five-year designation, according to EBR Schools.

The Arts School Network appoints schools that meet the exemplary practice in evaluating its operation and educational programs.

Dr. R. Scott Allen, managing director for Arts School Network, said, “We offer guidance, inspiration, and incentives to art school leaders who strive for excellence in their schools. When they demonstrate outstanding efforts towards this goal, as they do by following ‘A Guide to Assessing Your Arts School,” we recognize and reward their achievements with this designation.”

The school system says McKinley Middle’s mission is to provide a quality fine arts education and believes academics and arts should not be separated, but complement each other. Other accolades and awards that McKinley Middle has been recognized for are the National Blue Ribbon School and titles from Magnet Schools of America.
