BATON ROUGE, La. (WDSU) – Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry is a board member on the Rule of Law Defense Fund, which issued robocalls recruiting people to Wednesday’s rally that ended in a violent siege of the U.S. Capitol. In a statement to WDSU, Landry said he “was not aware of the call placed by the RLDF,” and condemned the violence at the Capitol.

Landry sits on the board of both the Republican Attorney General Association and its subsidiary the Rule of Law Defense Fund.

“I was absolutely outraged that individuals would break into our nation’s Capitol in an attempt to interrupt the work of Congress then wreak havoc and destruction. I am deeply disturbed by the loss of life,” Landry said.

The violence, with led to the deaths of five people, including a U.S. Capitol police officer and a woman who was fatally shot by Capitol police, occurred after rally attendants marched to the Capitol where Congress convened to certify President-elect Joe Biden as the winner of the presidential election.

Landry, a loyal Trump supporter, said he does not condone “any act of violence, period.”

As reported by the Louisiana Illuminator, the robocalls included the time and location of the March To Save America and told listeners, “We are hoping patriots like you will join us to continue to fight to protect the integrity of our election.”

Landry noted the Republican Attorneys General have consistently condemned violence.

“We condemned the violence at BLM protests, Antifa protests, the burning and the looting of minority-owned small businesses and public buildings, including the fire set at the White House last year. We have been consistent and Republican Attorneys General condemned the violence that occurred this at the Capitol as well…. All violence in this country should be condemned and the rule of law should be upheld irrespective of who it is that is breaking the law and endangering lives.”
