BATON ROUGE, LA (WVLA/WGMB)– Across Louisiana, thousands have contracted the novel coronavirus and have died from it, but a local woman is among those who are recovering. Kourtney Butler is sharing her message of hope.

“At the end of March I began to start feeling not myself. It started with a cough and a headache. I thought it was something else maybe sinus related and then my symptoms began to progress,” said Butler.

The LSU graduate student says she entered and left the hospital twice after fighting the virus and is fortunate to approach yet another milestone, of planning for her upcoming wedding.

“In my last semester I’m trying to figure out do we postpone the wedding or do we keep the wedding date moving forward with that? The coronavirus kind of put a halt to all of that,” said Butler.

Still, she encourages others not to underestimate this virus.

“Even with things opening up I actually say proceed with caution. Just because I was showing symptoms early one, the person next to you may not have any symptoms and they still may
have the virus. You just have to be really careful,” said Butler.
