Louisiana Democrats asking state delegation to decry ‘recent violence and destruction’ at U.S. Capitol

Local News

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The Louisiana Democratic Party is responding to Wednesday’s violence in Washington, D.C.

The affiliate of the Democratic Party in the state of Louisiana released this statement on Wednesday:

Today we witnessed a sad chapter in our nation’s history, as a group of thugs stormed the U.S. Capitol to mount an insurrection and disrupt the peaceful transition of power at the behest of President Donald Trump and several members of Louisiana’s federal delegation, including Senator John Kennedy. America must come together, but that cannot happen as long as our elected leaders continue to spread divisive, seditious rhetoric. We are calling on Senator John Kennedy, as well as Representatives Clay Higgins, Steve Scalise and Mike Johnson to put our country first by certifying the election results, and to bring this dangerous election fraud charade and violence to a conclusion.

The Louisiana Democratic Party is expected to elaborate on this request at a Thursday afternoon news conference.

The news conference is taking place on the steps of the Louisiana State Capitol at 2 p.m.

Organizers say that the Chair of the Louisiana Democratic Party, Katie Bernhardt, is going to speak at the news conference.
