BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A Honda Fit “flipped several times” in the 9000 block of Antioch Rd. on Saturday, December 3.

The driver of that vehicle was identified as Ryan Jackson, 28, of Lutcher.

A deputy with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office was called to that accident around 9:20 p.m.

A witness said that Jackson entered a curve at 70 mph on Antioch Rd.

The witness further stated that the Lutcher man “crossed over the center line, overcorrected and ended up driving off the east side of Antioch Rd.,” according to the affidavit.

The vehicle came to a stop after flipping off of Antioch Rd.

The responding deputy said that Jackson smelled like alcohol and “was having balance issues while standing.”

During the interview, “Jackson said a vehicle crossed into his lane, and he swerved out of the way crashing his vehicle,” according to the affidavit.

Another deputy arrived on scene and proceeded to question Ryan Jackson.

This deputy also smelled alcohol emanating from Jackson.

Jackson told the second deputy that he was looking at his phone prior to crashing the Honda.

The 28-year-old admitted to drinking alcohol before the crash.

Jackson did not do well when asked to do Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and was arrested at the crash scene.

The Lutcher man refused to take a chemical breath test and was taken to a local hospital “for evaluation.”

A blood sample was collected from Jackson at the hospital.

Jackson was subsequently let out of the hospital and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the charges listed below:

  • Operating while intoxicated; first offense
