BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) — Dartanyon Williams, the master identity thief, graduated with nearly a 4.0 GPA, but decided to pursue ‘white collar crimes’ at a young age.

Williams began experimenting with identity theft at the age of 15, stealing credit cards from his parents and grandmother. By the time he was in his 20’s, he turned this scheme into a multi-million dollar crime career.

“I was a curious kid and those curiosities led me down deeper, darker paths and I began to acquaint myself with the crime itself and understand that white collar crimes were more lucrative and less penalty, I began to scale it as a criminal career,” said Williams in an interview with Tamron Hall.

The sophistication of his crimes earned him the opportunity to work with the FBI, Secret Service, Louisiana Bureau of Investigation, Louisiana State Police, and US Attorney’s Offices for the Eastern and Middle Districts of Louisiana to help agents better understand and prevent identity theft.

VH1 My True Crime Story tells real stories of crime and the road to redemption, told by the individuals who lived the surreal experiences. The new season, narrated by Remy Ma, will premiere on August 29.

In 2021, Williams ran for the U.S. House to represent Louisiana’s 6th Congressional District.

Williams episode will air in September on VH1.
