BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – Louisiana Public Broadcasting will have a virtual event that will explore Muhammad Ali’s role as an athlete and a community activist.

The broadcasting company has partnered with the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame to show how his legacy lives on today for young athletes across Louisiana, through the work of an organization he co-founded called Athletes For Hope.

Ali, Athletes and Community” will be hosted by Ro Brown, the first on-air Black sports anchor and reporter in New Orleans. Panelists include: Retired LSU Head Baseball Coach Paul Mainieri, Founding CEO of Athletes For Hope Ivan Blumberg, Southern University Head Women’s Soccer Coach Jeremy Fontenot and Senior Director of Public Relations and External Affairs at the Muhammad Ali Center Jeanie Kahnke.

The free event will be on Thursday, Jan. 20 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Registration is required and can be completed here.

“LPB would like to reach athletes across all sports and genders to help show them that it is possible to take the passion they bring to competition and translate that to their community and causes they hold important,” the event program says.
