The American Red Cross is planning to install smoke alarms in Baton Rouge on April 28 and May 5.
The smoke alarm installation events will occur in what the Red Cross called “high risk neighborhoods that have been identified within the 70805 zip code.”
The Louisiana Red Cross provided the dates and locations where they will be installing free smoke alarms:
- April 28: North Baton Rouge; Meet at Red Cross Chapter Office (4655 Sherwood Common Blvd.)
- May 5: Gardere Neighborhood; Meet at Ben Burge Park (9350 Antigua Dr.)
The two Baton Rouge smoke alarm installation events are part of the American Red Cross Sound the Alarm Save a Life program.
As part of the Sound the Alarm Save a Life program, the American Red Cross will install 100,000 free smoke alarms throughout the United States from April 28 to May 13.
“Smoke alarms save lives,” said Merri Alessi, executive director for the Capital West chapter of the American Red Cross of Louisiana “Three out of every five home fire deaths in this country happen in homes that don’t have working smoke alarms. So we here in Louisiana, we are joining this national effort to install 100,000 alarms in homes that need them most.”
