Louisiana Soybean Farmer Speaks Out On Tariffs

Local News

Erwinville, La (WVLA-WGMB)– Louisiana soybean farmers are feeling the impacts from the U.S. trade war with China.
Local farmer Donald Schexnayder of West Baton Rouge Parish says he used to sell a large supply of his soybeans to China who historically bought 60% of Louisiana’s soybeans. The Trump administration is issuing a relief package for soybean farmers, and more than $180 million dollars of that will go to farmers in the state.
But despite the hardships right now, Schexnayder is confident President Trump will pull them through.
Other commodities like corn, cotton sugarcane, and rice have also seen negative impacts of the trade war.
