Louisiana State Police investigate fatal car crash that killed 11-year-old boy

BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – Louisiana State Police (LSP) are investigating a fatal car crash on LA Hwy 946 where an 11-year-old boy was killed.

Around 10 p.m. on Saturday, LSP was called out to LA Hwy 946 at Joor Rd. for a car crash.

Through an investigation, LSP learned that 18-year-old Derick Jones was driving a 2006 Honda Pilot along with two passengers when Jones exited the road to the right and ran into a canal bordering the roadway.

11-year old Julian Jones was seriously injured in the crash and was sent to a hospital where he died due to his injuries. Derick Jones was not injured and the other passenger sustained minor injuries.

Whether all three passengers were wearing a seatbelt is still being determined. Derick Jones submitted a toxicology sample as part of the ongoing investigation.

LSP reminds all travelers to wear a seatbelt for their safety.
