LAPLACE, La (BRPROUD) – Louisiana State Police is investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed a 28-year-old Missouri man in St. John the Baptist Parish.

Troopers from LSP Troop B responded to a crash on U.S. Highway 61 at Windsor Boulevard on Friday morning. Through an investigation, troopers learned that 28-year-old Ryan Albertson from Madison, MO was driving west on Windsor Boulevard in a Pontiac C6. A Kenworth T880 was driving north on Hwy. 61 at the same time.

“For reasons still under investigation, the Pontiac disregarded a traffic control signal and entered into the northbound lanes of U.S. Hwy 61 directly in front of the Kenworth,” an official press release said. “The Kenworth then impacted the driver’s side of the Pontiac.”

Albertson and the passenger of the Pontiac were not wearing seatbelts. Albertson was pronounced dead on the scene. The passenger was sent to a local hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Kenworth was wearing their seatbelt and has no reported injuries. LSP says impairment is not suspected but toxicology samples were taken from the drivers as part of the routine for the investigation.

“Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of safe decisions behind the wheel,” LSP said. “Please take a moment to speak with your loved ones about the importance of their safe decisions. Remind them to always wear a seatbelt, never drive impaired, and to avoid distractions.”
