GONZALES, La (BRPROUD) – Louisiana State Police (LSP) Troop A are investigating two crashes that left three people dead. The first crash happened in East Baton Rouge Parish and the second one happened in Ascension Parish.
The first crash happened a little after 10 p.m. on Saturday on US Hwy 61 north of LA Hwy 964 in Zachary.
27-year-old Cameron Davis and 30-year-old Christopher Bourgeois were killed after their vehicle, a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado, ran off the roadway to the right and overturned multiple times.
Davis, Bourgeois, and a third passenger were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and were forced out of the Silverado. Troopers say that Davis was driving, Bourgeois was in the front passenger seat and a third passenger was in the rear seat.
The reason why the vehicle ran off the roadway is still under investigation. LSP says that Bourgeois and Davis were from Baton Rouge.
The second crash happened after midnight on Sunday on Coontrap Road south of LA Hwy 74 in Gonzales.
56-year-old Willie Owens was walking north on LA Hwy 938 at the same time 31-year-old Jasper Bougere was driving south on LA Hwy 938 in a 1991 Chevrolet Camaro.
According to LSP, the Chevrolet crossed the centerline into the opposite lane and allegedly struck Owens. After hitting Owens, the vehicle went off of the roadway and hit a utility pole.
The reason why Bourge crossed the centerline is still under investigation.
Owens was pronounced dead at the scene. State Police say that impairment is unknown on his part, but a routine toxicology sample was taken from him and will be submitted for testing.
State Police suspect impairment is a factor in the crash on Bourgere’s part. Troopers arrested Bourgere and booked him into the Ascension Parish Jail. He is charged with vehicular homicide and a first offense of driving while intoxicated. Bourge and Owens are from Gonzales.
