BATON ROUGE, LA (BR-PROUD) – At just 11-years-old Kennedi Owens is helping bring all natural skin care products to kids after launching her own company.
Owens is not your average 11-year-old. In addition to playing volleyball, basketball and riding horses, she also runs her own business.
“I always just made sure my skin was really nice, didn’t have any bumps or acne. I just love taking care of my skin,” Kennedi said.
She didn’t like the skin care products available for her age group, so she took matters into her own hands and created Sweet Skin, a skin care and hygiene line for kids.
“It’s specifically Kennedi’s creation. We actually flew out to Marietta, Georgia and she picked out everything from the scent, to the texture, to the color, everything,” said Darrel Owens, Kennedi’s dad.
Her line includes a deodorant, face wash and lotion. The products are all natural and aluminum free. They are designed for kids ages 4 to about 15.
“I actually use the products myself, so I hate to put an age limit on it. I actually use the lotion and deodorant,” Owens laughed.
Owens said he was surprised to see her business take off so quickly.
“It’s exciting and rewarding. We’ve always instilled in our kids that they can do anything, so to finally have something that she can call her own and see it take off, and show her how to make sure it’s successful.”
Now, just a year in, Kennedi is selling products all across the country. She was even featured on Ellentube and interviewed by celebrity Ayesha Curry.
Her dad said he’s proud to see her following her passion.
“With everything going on we really want to show her that in today’s time women can do and be anything that they want to be. So I think she is in a position to really lead and to bring a lot of girls, young girls, with her to be successful. I think this is perfect timing right now.”
As for Kennedi, she believes the sky’s the limit.
“Believe in yourself and think- know that you can do it, not think. Believe in yourself because all that matters is if you believe in yourself and you know that you can do it and you just shoot for the stars.”
