HOLDEN, La. (The Livingston News) – A Holden teenager died in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday night after he was ejected from an overturned vehicle, according to Louisiana State Police.
Troopers from LSP Troop A began investigating a crash on Interstate 12 in Holden around 7 p.m., according to spokesperson Taylor Scrantz.
Authorities said “the initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as 18-year-old Slade Hutchinson of Holden was traveling eastbound on Interstate 12 in a 2017 BMW passenger car.”
Giovanni Barrera, 16, was in the front seat of the BMW.
“For reasons still under investigation, the BMW exited the roadway to the left and overturned in the median,” Scrantz said in the statement.
Barrera was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The 16-year-old was thrown from the BMW.
Barrera died later at a local hospital.
Hutchinson was wearing a seat belt “and sustained moderate injuries.”
Investigators are awaiting toxicology results from Hutchinson.
As of now, no charges have been filed in this case.
