A pedestrian died on Friday morning after being hit by a Mack truck in Livingston Parish.
The investigation into the crash started around 4 a.m. and it involved a Mack truck and 47-year-old Ronald Ridgedell of Amite.
The deadly incident occurred on LA Hwy 16 north of Weiss Rd.
LSP said “Ridgedell was riding his bicycle in the northbound lane of LA Hwy 16” when he decided to put his bike on the shoulder.
Ridgedell then entered the northbound lane of LA Hwy 16.
According to the Louisiana State Police, “at the same time, 64-year-old Charles Barns Jr. of Greensburg was driving a 2012 Mack truck northbound on LA Hwy 16.”
The Mack truck collided with Ridgedell and the pedestrian died at the scene.
LSP said, “impairment is unknown at this time on the part of Ridgedell, but an autopsy and toxicology report will be conducted by the Coroner’s Office.”
The driver of the Mack truck was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was not hurt.
According to the Louisiana State Police, “Ridgedell was wearing dark colored clothing, and there were no street lights in the area.”
The investigation into this deadly accident remains open.
