LSP asking for public assistance in hit and run fatal crash in Gonzales

BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – Louisiana State Police Troop A are investigating a fatal crash in the Gonzales area.

The crash happened in Ascension Parish on Interstate 10 at milepost 175 and caused one death, 33-year-old Christopher Holmes.

An initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as a 2007 Nissan Altima was traveling eastbound on I-10 at the same time a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling eastbound on I-10 in front of the Nissan.

“For reasons still under investigation, the Nissan struck the rear of the Chevrolet. After striking the Chevrolet, the Nissan came to a stop in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10. The Nissan was subsequently struck by Holmes, who was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 in a 2005 Ford Expedition. After striking the Nissan, the Expedition entered the median and overturned,” according to an official LSP press release.

Holmes was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead on scene. The Chevrolet driver was also unrestrained but was not injured.

The Nissan driver fled the scene of the crash.

LSP is asking for public assistance in locating the driver of the Nissan. Anyone with any information for this crash is asked to call LSP Troop A at (225) -754-8500.
