BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving an unrestrained driver on Saturday, Oct. 9 near Bayou L’Ourse.
According to LSP, an investigation revealed that 28-year-old Luis Chaires was traveling east on LA Hwy 398, about two miles east of La Hwy 663, in a 2006 GMC Sierra when the GMC crossed the centerline and ran off the roadway to the left. The reason for crossing the line is still unknown, but Chaires tried to regain control of the vehicle by steering right. Chaires failed to regain control of the GMC and rotated/ The vehicle ran off the roadway, overturned and hit a tree.
Chaires was not wearing a seatbelt during the crash. LSP said Chaires was partially ejected, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office.
