BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – Louisiana State Police Troop A is investigating a fatal crash involving a cyclist that occurred Saturday night.
On U.S. Hwy 61 in East Baton Rouge Parish, 46-year-old Adam Plaisance from Prairieville was s traveling north in the left lane on a bike at the same time a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder was traveling north behind Plaisance.
For reasons under investigation, the Nissan hit the back of the bike and Plaisance sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured. Impairment is not known, but toxicology samples were taken from both the driver and the cyclist. The crash is currently under investigation.
LSP said in a press release that they want to remind cyclists to never assume a motorist can see them.
‘Simple precautions such as wearing an approved bicycle helmet, reflective materials, and avoiding distractions are key to preventing crashes and avoiding injuries,” LSP said. “Louisiana law requires bicyclists to remain as close to the right of side of the roadway as practicable and obey all traffic laws.”
