LSP searching for Prairieville man wanted for multiple felony warrants

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Louisiana State Police are asking the public for help in locating a Prairieville man wanted for multiple felony warrants.

LSP said their Fugitive Apprehension Unit is searching for 26-year-old Levi James Mitchell.

Troopers said he was last seen on Monday fleeing the scene of a fatal crash on La. Hwy 938 (Coon Trap Road) west of US Hwy 61.

Mitchell was involved in a fatal vehicle crash that took the life of 35-year-old Jasy Hunt of Gonzales, according to LSP. The crash happened on Aug. 2 after 11:30 a.m.

A state police investigation found that Hunt was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Mitchell is wanted for multiple felony warrants, including:

  • Illegal Possession of Stolen Things ($5k to $25k)
  • Aggravated Flight from an Officer
  • Reckless Operation of a Vehicle
  • Aggravated Obstruction of a Highway of Commerce
  • Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle
  • Simple Criminal Damage to Property ($1k to $50k)
  • Vehicular Homicide
