LSU alumna creates GoFundMe account to raise funds for LSU’s library

Local News

After LSU athletics unveiled the new football team’s locker room.

“the facility we had before I was fine with it but you know you have to keep up” said Ed Orgeron.

The library versus locker room debate began.

“It kind of shows that we have a culture in Louisiana a little bit.”

Hundreds of people took to social media, calling out the school over the conditions of other buildings outside of athletics.

“This whole discussion around the locker room was a reminder that the state doesn’t seem inclined to want to help build a new library and the way we get these things done is through private donations and I’m happy to start trying to raise that money.”

LSU alumna, Ginger Gibson started a GoFundMe account. In less than 24 hours, the account raised nearly $3,000 of the $20,000,000 goal.

“I’ve spoken with the foundation and they are committed to making sure that every penny of this goes to library facilities” said Gibson.

In October of 2017, LSU released rendering for a master plan. Among the ideal changes, a new library.

“While there is an idea or a big concept to have that library built in a new place even on campus, that is not funded so even if the university wanted to they couldn’t start tomorrow” said Gibson.

Gibson said, despite her efforts, she is excited for the new locker room but feels every LSU student deserves to have the best of the best.

“These young men do a spectacular job representing our university and they deserve world class facilities and I’m happy they got it. I also think the entire student body of LSU deserves a world class library or at least one that doesn’t flood and leak or looks like it going to come down at any moment.”
