BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – At 1 p.m. on Thursday, the two biggest universities in Baton Rouge are joining the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank and Athletes for Hope to help deal with food insecurity in the Capital City.

According to Athletes for Hope, “Louisiana is facing the highest rates of food insecurity in the nation and seniors in Louisiana are third highest struggling to have access to food.”

Student-athletes from LSU and Southern will be joined by volunteers at the food bank.

“Student athletes from LSU, Southern University, and Athletes for Hope will help sort and categorize all of the non-perishable food items to immediately help those who are hungry,” according to the non-profit organization.

Athletes for Hope broke down exactly what everyone will be doing this afternoon:

  • Checking dates on food
  • Moderate lifting and walking in our warehouse

The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank is located at 10600 S Choctaw Dr.
