BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The LSU men’s basketball team teamed up with the Boys and Girls Club to help spread holiday cheer.

“We’ve done it every year I have been a head coach except for last year, because of Covid. This is something our guys we’re looking forward to. Darius Days actually asked me, ‘Are we gonna do that again coach?’ I said, ‘Oh yeah, we will be back at it,'” said Will Wade, LSU men’s basketball coach.

Forty children were allowed to choose any items at Walmart with no limits.

“Going from learning virtually then back in school and back out of school and due to the hurricane, this is just a token of appreciation to bring joy back into their lives,” said Boys and Girls Club’s Amber Dunbar.

This is a tradition Coach Will Wade carries on every year. He said this year is even more special because of recent hardships.

“They’re excited, they’re thrilled. It’s a sense of appreciation,” said Wade.

Players said any chance to give back is a no-brainer.

“Me and everyone on the basketball team is big on giving back,” said player Shareef O’Neal.

And for the children, this is a Christmas they will never forget.

“I wanna say, ‘Thank you.’ Y’all are the best boys and I wish I could come back. Merry Christmas,” said one child from the Boy and Girls Club.
