BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – Lousiana State University announced that one of their own will become the first woman manager for an affiliated minor league baseball team.

According to an official press release, Rachel Balkovec has been named the manager for The New York Yankees minor league Low-A affiliate team, the Tampa Tarpons. Balkovec graduated from LSU in 2012 with a master’s degree in sports administration. She became the first woman to hold the position of minor league hitting coach for the Yankees in 2019, according to the press release.

“LSU was an absolutely critical point in my career when I learned about elite level standards in championship programs,” Balkovec said in a press release. “The coaches, players and professors all played a huge role in developing a foundation on which to build a career in professional sports. I gained the confidence I needed to be at the next level through the mentorship I received at LSU.”
