BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The historic match up between Louisiana State University and Southern University and A&M College is causing a lot of fans to go all out for tailgating this year.
The sold-out game had over 200,000 people in attendance and nearly all were tailgating.
LSU fans like Tyron Morgan say, “I’m finally glad we got the chance to get with LSU and Southern, get together for this meeting so that we can get all this over with.”
While Southern fans like Effrine Morgan say, “We’re looking forward to it. We feel welcome but it’s the battle of Baton Rouge right now.”
Many fans have been waiting for this match their entire lives and others have never been to a tailgate.
Sean Hodges has cheered for football for many years but has never been to a tailgate.
“This is actually my first tailgating experience ever in my life so I’m taking it all in I’m just loving it,” Hodges said.
“When LSU plays, I root for LSU, but today I’m going for Southern,” Hodges said.
While the fans may cheer for a certain team, others cheered for both teams because they are Baton Rouge proud.
Originally from Baton Rouge, Michael Arceneaux moved away to Pensacola, Florida but returned home for the game.
“It’s a good day for Baton Rouge, get to see everyone come together and show off our state,” Arceneaux.
Southern University alumni Karnisha Williams says, “I’m actually cheering for both teams. I went to LSU and Southern. I just graduated from Southern.”
