BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD)– LSU closed out its spring practice with its annual Spring Game where the Tigers compete against themselves.
LSU Fan Peter Rauterkus said, “Their splitting up (the team) into purple and gold teams, so it’s first-team offense and 2nd team defense, against 2nd team offense and 1st team defense on the other team.”
LSU Fan Joseph Munola added, “In 2020 there was a big transitional period from a lot of people who won the championship to our new recruits and backups and I think this year we are just trying to figure out the best way to move forward. ”
Many said this was a much needed event after a difficult year due to the pandemic.
LSU Fan Stacey Downing, “I feel very excited and very comfortable coming back. Very excited to get back and see the tigers.”
Masks were required and social distancing was encouraged. A modified form of tailgating was also allowed for the first time in over a year.
The stadium was able to be filled up to 50-percent capacity. Attendees ranged from new fans to long-time purple and gold faithfuls.
LSU Fan Larry Davis said, “We’ve been avid LSU fans for many years and our daughter got us started into that. So, we are glad to be here.”
Some showed up to cheer on the half-time show.
LSU Fan Chance Gandolfo said, “Congratulations to the new golden girl Rachel Bueche, Geaux Tigers!”
For other fans, this game meant more than just football.
This game means family, friends, something I left a long time ago that I shouldn’t have,” said McKinley.
LSU Fan Allison Masters added, “Our family’s coming back together again.”
The game gave Geaux Nation a small glimpse into what they could expect to see from LSU this upcoming Fall season.
