Lutcher man arrested after allegedly setting fire to family member’s home

St. JAMES PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) – A Lutcher man was arrested by authorities after allegedly setting fire to a family member’s home.

The St. James Parish Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 1600 block of Third Street at around 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 16, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFM).

The house fire caused “extensive damage” to the structure as well as causing some damage to a house next door, according to SFM. Authorities said the resident in the house escaped without injury.

Investigators concluded that the fire was set intentionally by 35-year-old Scott Chauvin, according to a news release from SFM.

SFM and St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Chauvin on Wednesday.

Chauvin currently faces one count of aggravated arson, however, SFM said additional charges are expected from the sheriff’s office.
