Lyft launches in Baton Rouge

Local News
For Cierra Turner, driving is what she does for a living.
“Sometimes it’s busy, and sometimes it’s slow,” said Turner.
Turner has been driving for Uber for a year and a half, and Lyft for few months in New Orleans.
“I love driving. There’s never a day that I don’t drive,” said Turner.
Now, since Lyft is in Baton Rouge, so is turner to expand her customer base, but with that, safety becomes an even greater concern.
“Yeah, I try not to think about it because it’s never happened to me before,” said Turner.
Even with both companies conducting background checks and making sure customers are safe, what about the drivers?
Nationally, there have been reports of assaults against rideshare drivers, and locally, we reached out to multiple law enforcement authorities. They aren’t aware of any this year so far, but are looking into it.
Turner’s advice to drivers, always stay mindful of your surroundings.
“I’ve never run into problems with anybody. The people I pick up, they’re really great. They’re great people. They’re fun, party people, but I do carry mace and a taser with me, and I pay attention to body gestures.”
