Man accused of stabbing postal worker in Zachary arrested

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A man accused of stabbing a postal worker in Zachary was arrested on Thursday.

On Friday, Dec. 31, the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office (EBRSO) began an investigation into a stabbing incident involving a U.S. postal worker in the 1200 block of Mt. Pleasant Road in Zachary. The victim was stabbed multiple times while delivering mail at the Audubon Park apartment complex, according to an affidavit.

EBRSO said the victim is expected to survive her injuries.

Through investigation, detectives discovered that the victim was on her routine mail route when an unknown Black male allegedly attacked her. Documents state she was allegedly dragged out of her vehicle, thrown to the ground and assaulted with a knife. The victim was able to fight the suspect and escape.

On Jan. 6, the suspect was identified as 28-year-old Lionel Haile of St. Francisville. He was arrested and booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on an attempted second-degree murder charge.
