BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) — A woman was seen screaming for help by witnesses on June 29 on Iroquois Street.

Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) arrived to the scene and discovered a vehicle with Markez Millican and the female victim inside, parked next to an abandoned building.

Officers asked Millican to step outside of the vehicle before questioning the victim.

According to arrest documents, the victim told officials that she was attacked by Millican whenever she attempted to get out of the vehicle. She said Millican grabbed her throat and strangled her. Officers observed multiple marks on her swollen face and stomach, bleeding from her mouth, scratches, and bruises on her neck.

The victim said when she told Millican she wanted to call the police, he took her phone away from her.

According to BRPD, the couple stated that they were living together in the car and did not have a residence.

Officers also located a backpack inside of the vehicle with a ‘heavy smell of marijuana’ coming from the bag and found a container of marijuana and a digital scale.

Millican was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and charged with second degree kidnapping, domestic abuse battery with strangulation, possession with intent to distribute schedule I, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

His bond is set at $41,000.
