PALMETTO, La. (BRPROUD) – A Palmetto man faces attempted first-degree feticide charges after punching a pregnant woman in the stomach during a robbery.

On July 17, 34-year-old Jai Marcellous Rideau beat the victim with a PVC pipe and choked her while stealing cash and an Apple watch, according to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Reports from deputies said Rideau grew angry with the victim for trying to leave before using violence.

As a result of being choked, the victim blacked out, according to authorities. Then Rideau pulled the victim out of the vehicle and started punching her in the stomach. The victim was able to get away and contact authorities. Sheriff’s office reports said Rideau then bit the woman in the face.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrested Rideau. He was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail and faces charges of attempted first-degree feticide, domestic abuse battery by strangulation of a pregnant victim with a dangerous weapon and armed robbery.
