Man faces second-degree murder charge in connection to fatal stabbing

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A man faces a second-degree murder charge in connection to fatally stabbing his cousin.

On July 21, East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office detectives responded to a call at 3 a.m. regarding a homicide.

An investigation revealed that an argument between two cousins led to a stabbing that claimed the life of 22-year-old Sergio Vega-Ahumada, according to an affidavit. The victim was pronounced dead by EMS.

The suspect was identified as 20-year-old Alan Vega-Ontiveros.

Detectives were able to find the murder weapon on the apartment’s property, according to the affidavit.

Vega-Ahumada text messaged friends before the incident saying Vega-Ontiveros had a knife and was attempting to kill him, according to EBRSO.

Vega-Ontiveros was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. He faces one count of second-degree murder.
