Man found shot to death in car along I-10, APSO investigating

PRAIRIEVILLE, La. (BRPROUD) — Late Thursday night, deputies responded to an incident on Interstate 10 near Prairieville. For residents like Ray Mitchell, hearing about another shooting is unsettling.

“It makes you wonder if it can happen to you, what caused it, why did someone feel like they had to take somebody else’s life as they are driving along the interstate,” said Mitchell.

According to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, the shooting may be the result of a situation that started outside of Ascension Parish lines.

“When our deputies got on scene and arrived, located a vehicle that was blocking pretty much all three lanes of traffic, the vehicle had been shot multiple times and inside we found a male that had been deceased,” said Lt. Col. Capello.

“The person that got transported to the hospital and the person that was deceased inside the vehicle, neither one of them is from Ascension Parish. It really appears that there’s some type of situation going on between some groups outside of our parish, this may be a retaliation,” said Capello.

Lt. Col. Capello is calling this incident an isolated incident.

“This is very unusual, this is not the type of thing that happens in Ascension Parish on our interstates. Just know that Ascension Parish’s office is going to be out there in full force, as long as we need to be,” said Capello.

While suspects have not been named, Capello said there is no immediate threat to the community.
