GROSSE TETE, La. (BRPROUD) – Two suspects were arrested in connection to a Thanksgiving Day shooting at the Tiger Truck Stop that left one dead.
The shooting victim’s brother, Freddie Devose III, was arrested on charges of attempted second-degree murder, second-degree murder, illegal use of weapons, and two counts of aggravated criminal damage to property, according to the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The second suspect arrested was identified as Timothy Washington. He faces charges of convicted felon in possession of a firearm, fugitive warrant from East Baton Rouge Parish, manslaughter, simple assault, and illegal use of weapons.
Authorities identified the victim as Demore Devose.
The Pointe Coupee Sheriff’s Office said a man, later identified as Washington, who allegedly fired shots at the truck stop fled to Livonia armed with a pistol and an AR-style rifle. The sheriff’s office said he was staying in an apartment complex near a high school.
Multiple law enforcement agencies including the Livonia Police Department, Pointe Coupee Sheriff’s Office, and Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office worked together to apprehend Washington.
As of Tuesday, Nov. 29, the sheriff’s office in Iberville Parish said it is unknown why the shooting happened. Authorities said the Devose brothers were leaving the store while Washington was outside in a vehicle before “words were exchanged” and shots were fired.
