BELLE ROSE, La. (BRPROUD) — A high-speed chase into Ascension Parish Friday resulted in the arrest of a St. James man and damages made to a patrol unit, mailboxes, and a house.
The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office said a deputy was led on a 120-mile-per-hour chase Friday, Sept. 23 after trying to stop the suspect for speeding. The suspect, identified as Davonta Herbert, Sr., 29, of St. James, first hit the deputy’s unit before the chase ended in a crash into a home on Evangeline Drive in Donaldsonville.
Herbert was arrested and booked into Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of aggravated flight from an officer, simple criminal damage to property, driving on roadway laned for traffic, driving under a suspended driver’s license, speeding, and probation violation.
The sheriff’s office said Herbert remains in jail without bond on the probation violation. He also remains jailed in lieu of $160,000 in traffic-related charges.
