BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A man who was accused of killing a couple in 2015 has pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter.
54-year-old Frank Garcia will be serving 30 years in jail. East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore said his office was preparing to take the case to trial with jury selection beginning on Monday.
Garcia was facing murder and kidnapping charges in connection to the death of a couple found in the backseat of a truck at a Hammond gas station.
“This family lost a mom and a dad, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends,” said Moore. “Hundreds of people lost someone here so you can never replace someone’s family. I believe it’s an adequate sentence based on that, but the brutality of the case, you can’t ever put a number of a senence on what acually happened.”
Moore said Garcia has to serve 85 percent of that sentence in jail.
