“After speaking with the parish, council members and local mayors, I have decided to issue a parish wide curfew beginning today.”

As the cases of Covid-19 rise in Iberville Parish. Leaders are now beefing up their efforts to fight the virus.

“This is a decision i do not take lightly” said Iberville Paris President, J. Mitchell Ourso.

The mandatory nightly curfew will begin at 9 p.m. and run through 5 a.m. Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi said, they simply want people to adhere to the rules.

“We’re asking the citizens to heed the Governor’s and the President’s warning. You know, anything we can do to create distance or slow the spread of this virus, we want to do” said Stassi.

He said, while they will be enforcing the curfew, they are taking into account essential workers

“We’re not trying to hurt anybody from going to their job. We understand shift change at the plants and all and my people won’t be out there harassing anybody unless they’re out there doing what they’re not supposed to be doing.”

Violators of the order could face a fine up to $500 or jail time. Stassi said, if everyone just do what’s asked, that could all be avoided.

“They need to be home with their families and if putting this in place helps that happen and we can save some lives it’s worth the effort.
