BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — For more than 30 years the Karnival Krewe de Louisiane has been giving back to the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. On Thursday, they got a firsthand look at their impact during a tour.
“Everyone knows someone that has been impacted by cancer. And you run into somebody that is under treatment and they are being treated by Mary Bird and, you know, that our dollars are touching them in a certain where. So, it’s kind of always a giving back feeling,” said Ashley Munn, president of Karnival Krewe de Louisiane.
Karnival Krewe de Louisiane is a local krewe dedicated to cancer research and education. On Thursday, President Ashley Munn brought back her Krewe for a tour of the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.
“Our nickname is ‘A Party with a Purpose’ because we do throw a great Mardi Gras ball but it is for a very important reason,” said Munn.
The krewe has given more than $4.4 million to the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, making them one of the strongest volunteer-driven groups in our community.
“We’re so grateful for every single thing that Karnival Krewe does in support of our early detection program, our clinical research,” said Danielle Mack, chief development officer at Mary Bird Cancer Center.
Krewe members toured everything from checking in, new technology, radiation therapy and more. Krewe leaders plan on working with the cancer center for years to come.
