BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Mary Bird Perkins will be obtaining new cancer treatment technology in a $10 million-plus investment.

The Cancer Center will be offering the Adaptive MRI-Guided Radiation Therapy Program in 2022. The technology within the program includes an Elekta Unity system and MR-linac, which oncologists can use to “target” tumors untreatable with radiation.

Only six cancer centers in the nation have this technology, according to a news release from Mary Bird Perkins.

“This is an absolute game-changer for Mary Bird Perkins, our patients and the state of Louisiana,” said
Kos Kovtun, M.D. radiation oncologist, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. “First and foremost, this new
technology is going to save lives. Our patients are going to have access to one of the world’s most
advanced technologies when it comes to cancer treatment.”
