BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome and the MOVEBR team broke ground Thursday on a new $4.3 million roadway that will be located behind two local hospitals.

The new road named Midway Boulevard will be a two-lane half-mile road from Picardy Avenue to the new Constantin Boulevard, behind Baton Rouge General and Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital, according to Mayor Broome’s office.

“This new roadway will provide additional connectivity and capacity within the Baton Rouge Health District and is one of several projects in the area where additional through-put will be created to increase roadway capacity and relieve congestion,” said Mayor Broome.

Officials said the roadway will have a cycle track for bicyclists, sidewalks, and a connection to BREC’s Ward Creek Greenway, pervious pavement, roadway lighting, tree plantings, sub-surface drainage, and raised intersections at Summa and Picardy.

Construction is anticipated to be completed in 12 months.
