BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Mayor-President Sharon Weston-Broome and other Louisiana leaders traveled to the nation’s capital to continue a growing partnership with the Biden-Harris Administration.
On Wednesday, the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs and the Office of Public Engagement hosted a group of state and local elected officials and community leaders from across Louisiana for a community event called Communities in Action: Building a Better Louisiana.
“I have said time and time again that this is an unprecedented season, especially for local government,” stated Broome.
EBR Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome traveled to D.C. as a part of a series of Communities in Action events. The White House worked with state, local and Tribal leaders to demonstrate how the Biden-Harris Administration is delivering results for the American people.
Broome says that the Biden-Harris Administration has been a privilege to work with for the partnership. “I am very grateful, for the partnership with the Biden Administration, and certainly we are a part of Communities in action,” she says.
During the event, participants heard from the Biden-Harris Administration officials including Director of Intergovernmental Affairs Julie Chavez Rodriguez, Director of Public Engagement Keisha Lance Bottoms, White House Infrastructure Coordinator Mitch Landrieu (former mayor of New Orleans), Office of Management and Budget Director Shalanda Young (Louisiana native), and more who spoke about the benefits and impact of President Biden’s American Rescue Plan, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Inflation Reduction Act, and the President’s economic agenda for working families in Louisiana.
Mayor Broome says the money is going towards managing and minimizing drainage issues, public safety, mental health practices, community engagement, and law enforcement.
Crime in Baton Rouge has been on the Mayor’s priority list. After the recent mass shooting, injuring 12 at Dior Night Club, she wants the public to know that this was unfortunate but not stopping solutions to deal with the rise in crime.
“Regarding the recent incident that happened at the nightclub, I would like for our citizens to know that does not dismiss the work that has already been done”, says Broome. “It was a very unfortunate incident.”
White House officials discussed how the Biden-Harris Administration will continue to work together with states and local partners to leverage these historic investments to create and expand opportunities for working families.
