People up and down the ATCHAFALAYA River Basin are preparing for the Morganza Spillway opening.

The mayor of Krotz Springs told NBC Local 33 that people in his town would respond once the Morganza Spillway had been opened for a few weeks.

The only business he knew of that was preparing ahead of schedule is Delek Refinery.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects the floodway near Krotz Springs could rise seven feet, according to Ricky Boyett, Chief, Public Affairs (New Orleans District).

At this time, we are expecting to see an approximately 7 ft rise in the floodway at HWY 190 near Krotz Springs.  I do want to note that there will not be 7 ft of water in Krotz Springs. All information that we have indicates Krotz Springs will not experience flooding as they have a ring levee system.

The Army Corp of Engineers will open the Morganza Spillway over a period of four days, beginning June 2.
