BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Many retirement communities and nursing homes were greatly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nursing home residents in our area were unable to see their loved ones for a long time.

The staff at St. James Place have done what they can to keep their residents healthy and occupied with fun activities.

One of those activities has been the card game, Blackjack.

According to St. James Place, “the assisted living residents actually formed a Blackjack card playing group led by dealer and instructor, William, St. James Place’s life enrichment coordinator. “

Well, L’Auberge Casino & Hotel Baton Rouge got word of this card club and on Thursday, residents of St. James Place are getting the opportunity to play blackjack at some private tables.

“The St. James Place Blackjack Club began in April 2020 with me dealing cards to a resident who was sitting by herself during happy hour, said William Myhand, Life Enrichment Coordinator for Assisted Living. “Within a month, we formed a group and have played Blackjack every week to this day. It makes me very happy to see how much joy the games have brought to our residents over the past year.”
