BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI died on Saturday, Dec. 31 at the age of 95.

Benedict was installed as the head of the Catholic Church on April 24, 2005, and he resigned on Feb. 28, 2013. Since his passing, many people have been coming through St. Peter’s Basilica and paying their respects to Pope Benedict.

In Baton Rouge, the public will be able to pay their respects at a memorial Mass for Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.

The mass is happening at St. Joseph Cathedral on Thursday, Jan. 5. Bishop Michael G. Duca of the Diocese of Baton Rouge will preside over the 12 p.m. service.

St. Joseph Cathedral is located at 401 Main St.
