BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Today was the official kick off of the 2023 Men Wear Pink campaign! A night full of entertainment and celebrating. Since the organization started it has raised more than 40 million dollars for breast cancer research. The American Cancer Society has been hosting events like this for over five years.
According to the national breast cancer foundation, one in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed in her lifetime. Men wearing pink is not only an event, but a group of campaign ambassadors bringing awareness to cancer.
Fundraisers are also vital, because every dollar helps the American Cancer Society save more lives from breast cancer. Organizers say this year’s fundraising is off to a good start.
“We’ve got a lofty goal of $150,000 from this group that we’re hoping to raise. But before the night even started, we’re already over 16,000. So, I’m really excited and hopeful for this year,” said Katelyn Cockerham, ARC’s Baton Rouge Senior Development Manager.
Survivor stories, along with some statistics of what ACS is doing were all shared as well. People in attendance enjoyed, free food and music. Organizers say it’s all about keeping the ambassadors in full spirits to fundraise.
