Metro councilwoman Tara Wicker hosting town hall on South BR infrastructure projects

Local News

District 10 Councilwoman Tara Wicker is hosting a “Talk with Tara” town hall meeting that will she says will open the line of communication for the community.

The agencies that will be represented at the meeting include the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, the City-Parish Department of Public Works, the Capital Area Transit System, BREC, the Downtown Development District, LSU’s Transportation Department, the Kansas City Railroad, the Water Campus, the East Baton Rouge Public Housing Authority and more.

Multiple officials will be on-hand to discuss the numerous current and planned transportation projects impacting the South Baton Rouge community.

Several projects are already in the works and what she wants to see is more connectivity with bike lanes and sidewalks which she says plays a huge role in pedestrian safety.

“All those things play a significant role in making sure that pedestrians are protected. Decrease in vehicular crashes and all kinds of things that we know can be a detriment when you have an increase in traffic in a particular area. We’re anticipating that these projects are definitely going to help with that, but the communication of how those projects are going to impact is really what’s most important,” Wicker says.

The meeting will be held at the McKinley Alumni Center located on Thomas Delpit Drive and begins at 6:30 p.m.
