Local News

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD)– Mississippi Mermaid Traci Lynn Martin finished her kayaking journey in record time.

You may remember we talked to Martin last week as she paddled through Baton Rouge on the Mississippi River, attempting record.

This Missouri nurse with chronic pain is now the Guinness World Record holder. She’s the fastest female to kayak the Mississippi at 55 days 8 hours 17 minutes. The previous record was 61 days.

Martin said, “I did it. I’m at mile marker 0. I’m just so happy. My father always wanted to do this I think he would have been proud of me. I think he would have been a part of the support team”

Traci now plans to paddle the upper Missouri River for four to five weeks and relax and enjoy the scenery. Congratulations Traci.
