Mixing disinfecting products could be hazardous

A lack of disinfecting products is causing people to mix items. But combining some of these products could be dangerous.

“People need to realize that mixing different chemicals together can cause fumes of different sorts that could cause raspatory problems.”

Robert Combs with the Baton Rouge Fire Department says. He understands people are trying to fight against the coronavirus but they should be mindful of what they’re using.

“use the products as they are presented to you. For instance, bleach, use as strictly bleach and water if you are utilizing alcohol, alcohol and water.”

Combs said, it’s best to not mix chemicals, whether you know what they will produce or not.

“In toxic fume can cause death in a long run if you’re expose to too much of it.”

for example, products like Windex contain ammonia and mixing that with something like bleach can cause chloramine – something officials say, is super dangerous.

“You’re going to cause more problems for your health than you would creating a cleaning product.”

Combs said, in the event you mix something that takes a turn for the worse simply.

“Open the windows and get out of the structure that they’re in. At that point, call 911.”
